In which months of the year is canoeing available?

From May to September, upon booking only.

What can I observe during the canoe trip?

The bottom is covered with dense vegetation, round green formations (valonia), and tangled filamentous algae that create a soft and welcoming habitat for the creatures of these waters.
Waving meadows of the rare Cymodocea nodosa sway beneath us, resembling a wheat field bending in the wind.
Ripples form in the water as fish flick their tails around the canoe.
You will observe birds and flora up close in their natural habitat. One of our guides will accompany you on this silent adventure through the peaceful lagoon waters in a two-seater canoe, ensuring complete safety.

What is the duration and the planned itinerary?

Experience Duration: The canoe excursion lasts approximately 90 minutes.
Route: Our journey begins in the main water basin, where we paddle toward the point where the Rio Arrieras river flows into the lagoon. Here, the depth decreases significantly, the water becomes murkier, and a network of channels unfolds before us, winding through small islets and leading inland. These shallow areas are a paradise for wading birds. Herons, Egrets and Night Herons thrive in this habitat, skillfully hunting fish. We continue our slow exploration of the tranquil lagoon environment, then turn our canoe toward the stream’s mouth, heading back toward the open lagoon basin. From here, we catch another glimpse of the sea before returning to our starting point.

how many people can partecipate?

A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 16 people can participate.

Is canoeing experience required?

No specific experience is required. Before starting, the guide will provide instructions on how to properly use the paddle to navigate the canoe efficiently and how to behave during the excursion. The canoes are two-seaters, and each participant will paddle independently, following the guide leading the group.

what should I wear? What should I bring with me?

Wear shorts and a t-shirt or a light dress over your swimsuit, along with a towel. Bringing a change of clothes is recommended, as the paddle may cause some splashes. We also suggest always wearing a hat and applying sunscreen. Children under 2 years old must be held on a parent’s lap, so we advise bringing anything needed for their comfort and safety. Your personal belongings will be kept safe.

What is included in the price?

Included in the price is a 90-minute canoeing excursion followed by a 90-minute guided tour of the Center. The full experience lasts approximately 3 hours, with available time slots from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM or from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM.

After a brief introduction to the ancient harbor area, the current lagoon, the submerged quarry, and the ancient shipwrecks, we dive into a surface water trek of about 500 meters. Along the way, you will observe the typical fauna and vegetation of the bay’s seabed, and the amphorae materials, coming from shipwrecks of the Roman era, which over time have cemented into the crevices of the seabed. The observation field also shows us the remains of the Roman quarry now submerged due to rising sea levels.
