Our mission
for a sustainable
tomorrow

We aim to contribute to building
a more sustainable Sardinia.
Our work is driven by the desire to foster change, transforming the way we think and act by exploring alternative futures.

We support public administration, schools, citizens, and businesses in building communities that are more aware of the connections between natural and social systems. Our goal is to foster a systemic vision of the Planet and our interactions with it, promoting an understanding of limits and the responsibility behind every individual action.
At the same time, we provide opportunities for well-being linked to the protection and preservation of the environment.

Through our initiatives we strive for an ethic of environmental and corporate sustainability. We support the public administration, the world of education, citizens and businesses, for the creation of communities that are more aware of the connections between natural and social systems, for the development of a systemic vision of the Planet and of our interactions with the Planet, educating a sense of limitation and responsibilitỳ of every individual action.
At the same time, we provide opportunities for well-being linked to the protection and preservation of the environment.

We take care
of the environment
to give it back to the future.

Inspired by the environment

With pride and a deep sense of responsibility, we safeguard the legacy that history has passed down to us, taking care of the promontory of Nora. A precious corner of the coastal landscape of Sardinia, where human presence tells the story of an intimate bond with the environment, the sea, the river, and the coast, inhabited since ancient times.

We take care of the environment
to give it back to the future.

We proudly and responsibly carry
the legacy that history has entrusted to us, taking care
of the Nora promontory.

Over time, the attention, respect, and care we have dedicated to the Nora lagoon, once overwhelmed by degradation after years of abandonment, have restored its beauty and strength, lifting it permanently from a state of environmental fragility and uncertainty.
Today, it is also a sophisticated, multifunctional educational environment where natural and landscape values, historical and archaeological significance, and economic and productive aspects showcase the remarkable ways in which nature and humans shape history and build the future.

Ecology and economy,
a viable combination,
a dual commitment.

For an ethics of environmental and business sustainability.

We combine ecology and economy by applying a multifunctional management model to the Laguna di Nora, which integrates the enhancement of its productive values with its important natural, historical and landscape qualities.

We combine ecology and economy by applying a multifunctional management model to the Laguna di Nora, which integrates the enhancement of its productive values with its important natural, historical and landscape qualities.
Combining ecology and economy requires great attention, and decisions are always driven not by economic urgencies but by the impact the environment can bear.
Over the years, we have been deeply committed to enhancing the potential of the lagoon area and presenting it as a laboratory for a new model of sustainable development that combines economic growth with the respect for the ecological balance of the natural area.
All the activities we carry out are focused on maintaining the balance of this fragile ecosystem.

Our sustainable practices

  • Productive activities are carried out using traditional fishing methods.
  • The fishing tools are built and used in compliance with current protection regulations.
  • The natural restocking of juvenile fish species is carried out.
  • No harvesting of species in critical conservation status is carried out.
  • Circular cooking principles and a no-waste approach are applied to maximize the value of seafood products.
  • Impact mitigation systems for fish-eating birds are implemented, ensuring no harm to the species.
  • We use renewable energy sources.
  • Furniture made from recycled materials is used wherever possible.
  • The number of entries to our facilities is regulated.
  • The educational aquarium is managed using specimens from bycatch, which are periodically released.

Know to love,
love to protect.

It is part of our mission to spread knowledge and awareness of the ecological, cultural and economic value of lagoons, which characterise Sardinian coastal environments and which for too many years have been considered unhealthy and unhealthy environments to be eradicated.

To do this, we created the Nora Lagoon Visitor Centre and returned the lagoon site to the community and made it accessible to schools and visitors. Through specially designed itineraries such as the Biodiversity Trail and our excursions, Canoeing and Snorkelling, one can learn

about the characteristics of this fragile ecosystem, to understand the need to safeguard and protect it, but also experience it through hiking.

From understanding the environment to acting for the environment.

In the field for 30 years helping dolphins and sea turtles.
We are active in the field of protecting endangered marine species and founded the Laguna di Nora Cetacean and Sea Turtle Rescue Center in 1993

carrying out volunteer activities for 20 years, rescuing and caring for cetaceans and sea turtles throughout the regional territory. Since 2008, we have been part of the Regional Wild Fauna Network of the Sardinia Region, under the ownership of the Municipality of Pula.
We care for stranded sea turtles and cetaceans, admitting them to our Center and returning them to the sea after necessary treatments. We monitor the nesting sites of Caretta caretta from the laying to hatching, protecting this critical moment of their biological cycle. We carry out awareness-raising and educational activities on the issues of human impact on coastal systems and the related problems concerning the conservation of cetaceans and sea turtles in the Mediterranean.

Technological Innovation in the Laguna di Nora

Artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to counter extreme events caused by climate change.

The management of Sardinian lagoons has a millennial tradition, but climate change now requires a proactive mindset to provide innovative solutions using all the technologies we have today to ensure the safety of our territories.
We actively wanted and collaborated on the project that could address the technological gap in lagoon management. The experiment, funded with EU funds and coordinated by the Municipality of Pula, involved two teams of experts working on developing a prototype to be installed at the sea mouths of the Nora lagoon. The innovative systems must be able to respond quickly to extreme flood events and secure the lagoon and the Pula plain. The tested technologies also include remote monitoring of the chemical and physical water parameters, as well as an innovative system for monitoring the fish populations in the lagoon.

Environmental restoration

We engage in environmental restoration and the protection of nesting sites for endangered species.

Together with the MedIsWet project partners, we have carried out actions to control the rat population at the nesting site of the Audouin’s Gull, one of the threats that led to the gradual decline of breeding pairs at the site, which until 2008 was among the top in Italy for breeding success.
We have carried out actions to eradicate invasive alien species in the ZCS Capo di Pula area. Dozens of Acacia saligna plants were removed from the Nora area, and we completed the eradication of Carpobrotus from the Laguna di Nora.
100 specimens of native plant species have replaced the eradicated alien species. We have carried out significant actions to control the prickly pear cactus on the island of San Macario.

For education on sustainability and progress.

We are the managing entity of the Laguna di Nora Sustainability Education Center of the Municipality of Pula, with which we have signed a memorandum of understanding that establishes Environmental Education for Sustainability (EAS) and environmental protection as a common goal.

Since 1989, we have been carrying out environmental education and sustainability activities, as well as outreach and awareness campaigns on topics related to biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource use and active citizenship, within the framework of projects funded by public entities.
We implement projects and events aimed at local administrators, citizens, teachers and students of all school levels, offering special programs with events, pathways, and educational workshops carefully designed.

Sustainable
dining

The Michelin Green Star for sustainability at the Fradis Minoris restaurant

We work in the field of restaurant sustainability by creating educational projects on food and biodiversity, and managing the Fradis Minoris Ittiturismo according to principles of local sourcing and circularity, awarded the Michelin Star and Green Star for sustainability.

Research, training,
opportunities.

We conduct applied research on the environmentally sustainable management of Sardinian lagoons for production purposes, as well as research on the effects of human activities on marine megafauna

with findings presented at prominent national and international scientific congresses.
We have extensive experience in professional training in the environmental sector and eco-friendly aquaculture activities, and we are a key reference point for theoretical and practical training in the sustainable management of wetlands.
In partnership with universities, we offer internship programs for students.

Projects for the environment

We create itineraries for exploring natural environments,
excursion activities and multimedia educational and outreach tools.
